Is this chicken pox?

My 9 year old tonight has got undressed ready for bed and he's got a rash all over his body.

He's had children pox before so it would be unusual to get them again but I know it's possible.

He's well with no fever and until he got undressed we didn't even know.

Does it look like pox or something else?

Is this chicken pox?

Do any of them look like blisters ? I can’t see from the photo. Has he been ill lately ?

StillWantingADog · 26/08/2023 21:43

not necessarily

it could be shingles (basically chicken pox part two). If it is shingles it won’t spread beyond a defined area

my 9 yo got it recently, it itched but not as badly as pox. We got given antivirals which helped clear up quickly.

We just had a child with his second round of chicken pox and it did look like this in day 1-3. He wasn't poorly then either. Have you got any that look like big spots/blisters?

NB look out for strep a symptoms as it continues. Been fairly common here apparently and seemed to happen to ds. Suddenly got temperature at day 4 or 5, sore throat with white patches and became poorly having been completely fine before. Had antibiotics and it was totally fine. But without all the warning messages from school I would have assumed it was just the chicken pox kicking in really late.

Some on his bum, legs and few on back as well as lots on tummy.

We have just come back from a holiday that had a hot tub and he was never out of it. I'm wondering if it's that.

I've given him an antihistamine and will see what he looks like in the morning.

No temp or anything.

More likely to be from the hot tub I would have thought.

Look up hot tub folliculitis. I think it's more likely to be that than chicken pox.

Sorry to intrude on your post my lo is 7 months could these be chicken pox hes absolutely fine himself touch wood

I would say that looks like early chicken pox so you will know for sure if the spots go on to blister and scab.

DD has had chicken pox, shingles and hot tub folliculitis and this most resembles chicken pox. Shingles were in specific places and in lines going along nerves (on her chest though could be elsewhere). For her, hot tub folliculitis was a denser rash over the chest and back.
