4 year old starts coughing in sleep,

My 4yr old son has started coughing as soon as he goes to sleep. He's had it over a week. Doesn't cough once in the day and then as soon as he goes to sleep it starts. He does it on and off all night. He's not unwell apart from that and doesn't cough in the day. Does anyone have any suggestions. It's making me pull my hair out.

Ok @ReadRum I'll see how the next couple of days go and if it doesn't stop I'll take him to the gp. It's only started a week or so ago and he's not had it before like this.

What's your house/their bedroom like?

My son had this. And then used to get a bad chest during winter. Got given a inhaler by the doctor but as soon as we moved out of the house it stopped.

There was lots of condensation and (what we didn't know about at the time) mould in his bedroom!!

@Lemonnhoney it started when we were in Portugal last week on holiday and continued since we got back so I don't think it's our house/his bedroom. He also shares a room with his sister and she's not had it. Part of thinks he might have swallowed pool water which is what has kicked it off.
