16 month old - heart rate 150 - normal? - please help!

Hi

I have seen a GP. I'm a worried parent so please no nasty comments.

My 16 month old has a temp - highest was 39. Gave calpol and then went to Urgent Care on advise of GP (as no appointments left at GP practice).

Whilst there his heart rate was 150. The triage nurse and the GP didn't seem too bothered but looking at the NICE guidelines anything above 149 is a red flag for sepsis. So, I'm just a bit confused! He has some spots on his arm and I also showed this to the GP but thankfully they do fade (please see attached pics). I was worried about sepsis.

(1) Does anyone know if a heart rate of 150 is normal for a 16 month old even with a slight raised temp?!

Thank you everyone.

Sorry to add - his respiratory rate was 45 before giving temp, now 30 after temp. I think his breathing rate was/is high

I think this can be normal when they have a raised temp. But if you’re worried do just call 111! Is he acting normally?

Hi. Yes, but obviously a bit grumpy. He is alert and smiles at times. His breathing rate still 40 breathes per min :/

160 bpm is tachycardic at this age range. I know this because my 16 month old DD was kept in A&E for monitoring with a heart rate of 160-180 bpm the week before last. It's normal when they have a temp to have a higher heart rate, but because she was tachy, the consultant decided to do bloods. They were clear so it was concluded it was viral, however she did develop a secondary bacterial ear infection a few days later so ended up on antibiotics. How long has DC had a temp?

@OdeToBarney hi - he started to have a temp this morning. just checked his heart rate and its 130 - the highest it's been was 150. Hoping it's viral. His respiratory rate was 40. GP said viral. Throat was clear

If he continues to have a high temp after 3 days, or his condition deteriorates (not drinking no wet nappies, lethargic and difficult to rouse) or signs of an ear/ throat infection, go back to the GP. If he is at nursery there will be lots more of this to come I'm afraid 😨
