What is this? Should I ring the doctors?

I've just seen this on my sons ear. It appears red and swollen. Also crusty at the top. Anyone have any idea what this is? Should I ring the doctors?

Hi Op, I can’t really see anything I’m afraid! What about popping to a pharmacy - they can have a look and advise if you need antibiotics so see the GP or maybe even put a bit of Sudocrem on it to see if that helps it?

Just looks like an infected spot (if you referring to the white thing on his lower ear).

If you like squeezing pimples, can you squeeze it after a shower or bath to get the pus out?

(disclaimer , not a doctor).

if not, pharmacy is a good first call.

It's in his hairline isn't it? Hard to see. Pop to a pharmacy with him for advice first l'd say. May just need some antiseptic ointment? Is he prone to eczema or anything like that? If he needs an antibiotic cream you will have to see gp but pharmacist will advise.

If you click on the whole pic it looks like a bumpy rash over it and it's swollen. He's also had a cough since last week so I'm going to take him to the doctors to be seen. From what I've looked up it looks like it could be an ear infection.

Sorry, yes I see @Lizbiz89 - poor thing. Does it feel warm to the touch? Is he pulling at it? I can see in the large photo it is very red and crusty. I would call GP and see what they say

calmcoco · 15/08/2023 16:15

I'd go to the pharmacy for that first.

Lizbiz89 · 15/08/2023 16:18

@Songbird74 yea it's really sore to touch. Made him cry when I looking at it. It's also the fact he's had a cough since last week. We were in Portugal last week as well and he was in the pool a lot. I think it could be an ear infection.

I did describe it to the gp and they said to bring him in.

Hope it heals up for him soon then @Lizbiz89

stressbucket1 · 15/08/2023 19:30

Is his ear swollen compared to the other side? If it's red and tender behind the ear it could be mastoiditis so needs seeing today. Good you are going to the GP

Songbird74 · 15/08/2023 19:40

Hope you got on OK at the GP, OP and he’s been given something to help x

Lizbiz89 · 15/08/2023 19:42

Thanks everyone for your replies. Took him to the gp and they said it's a fungal infection. They've prescribed an anti fungal cream. Hopefully it stops the itching and soreness soon.
