Low grade fever 7 days?

7 year old
has had fever of 37.8 for 7 days, drops
to normal when she’s had calpol.
shes ok in herself apart from a bit easily upset and slightly less energetic, no complaints of pain anywhere and I can’t see any obvious infection. Do I need to do a Gp trip because it’s day 7 and still hanging around stubbornly?

I didn't think that was a fever? Isn't it 38 ?

wobblymum1 · 10/08/2023 23:07

NHS seems to say 37.5 is a fever? But I’d be happy if it’s 38!

Hmmm, tricky one. If it were me, I wouldn't be concerned because it's brought down easily by calpol. Temperatures themselves are not actually dangerous, it's just a symptom of the body fighting the virus. She probably just has a cold and may take a couple of weeks to get over it. I'd only ever contact gp if it wasn't coming down with calpol, or she had other serious symptoms

Huge thanks, it’s definitely going down with calpol and I keep hoping it will be normal the next day but it’s just sitting stubbornly above 37.6 😡I’ll give it another week so hopefully it will come down on its own

If there's no pain or discomfort don't give Calpol, the body's way of killing whatever little gremlin it is, is to raise the body temperature so let her body do its thing.

What prompted you to check her temp?

What prompted you to check her temp?

She was
complaining of feeling cold When everyone else was feeling hot and she was very easily
weepy and not really wanting
to play.
