Heart murmur 5 month old

My baby was born with a heart murmur and has been checked at 5 months and she still has it. No other symptoms. She’s being referred for a scan. I’m so worried, has anyone else had anything similar and can tell me it’s ok?

My daughter had one, she was about a year old when it was detected, she was already under the care of a consultant for another condition though but it wasn’t present from birth. She had regular scans until she was three when it seemed to clear up. They were looking for a hole in her heart initially but there wasn’t one. She’s now a mum of two and is fine.

Both me and my daughter have benign heart murmurs and it's nothing to worry about at all. Lots of babies grow out of them and some, like us, don't. Try not to worry, now it's been picked up it can be checked out.

My son was 1 1/2 I think when his was detected - he would go blue in the bath / cold weather. He had an ecg if I remember correctly, the murmur was picked up, but nothing done as I was advised it was small and would sort itself out (he’s 10 now and no issue). My DSis also had one (she’s 38 now) and it was picked up as a baby - she had several heart checks when she was little but nothing since! Hope your LO is ok x

My daughter had one when she was born but had checks when she was days old and a scan 2 and a bit weeks. Think we had the scan on a Friday, got the full results on Monday and told to go to hospital the next day for an operation. She had a pulmonary stenosis. They used a small balloon to stretch the value. Had to have the operation repeated at 4 months but has been fine since and we only need to go for check ups about every 5 years.

Didn't want to read and run, I know it's easy but try not to worry too much. Lots of babies and adults have heart murmurs many people do not even know they have them.

My son does have a large murmur but he also has multiple heart defects, the best thing to do is wait for the scan that way you will be sure. Heart care is fantastic now so if the news isn't positive just know there will be lots of options and support.
