Clenil Modulite- Behaviour Changes

Hi

has anyone experienced behaviour changes and psychological issues in children since starting clenil?

my son was prescribed this and within days his behaviour had changed.. upset, worried, anxious, sad all the time, angry outbursts. We stopped the clenil for a week and his behaviour went back to normal but his asthma went down hill. Put him back on it 48 hours ago and can already see the symptoms coming back.

can this be the clenil? Help!

Yes, it's one of the known side effects. This is from the EMC

"a range of psychological or behavioural effects including psychomotor hyperactivity, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression or aggression (particularly in children). It is important that the dose of inhaled corticosteroid is titrated to the lowest dose at which effective control of asthma is maintained."

You should contact the prescribing clinician.

If you could also fill out a yellow card report, it would be really useful. Although it's a known side effect, the prevalence is listed as "unknown", so the more information, the better.

@underneaththeash thank you so much for replying. I have just completed the yellow card.

I don’t suppose you know how long it takes to resolve? He took it 19th-29th July then we stopped it for 5 days and he improved. Started it again 4th-6th august and he went rapidly downhill but he still isn’t 100% now so beginning to doubt whether that is it.

Can't remember how long it took to go back to normal but we had problems with it too when DS was younger.

I would go back to the GP and see what other options there are

@CynicalCake thanks so much. He’s had lots of bad thoughts and worries that have been very distressing to him, and us x

Hi OP how did you get on with this situation? Am starting to suspect my son has a similar problem…

Hi OP / @MiniMaxi do you happen to have an update on this at all please? I am going through the same situation with my 2 year old on Clenil and really struggling. Thanks so much if you read this.

Hi @flowerlover1990 so… I think Clenil caused intrusive thoughts for my son. He does also have suspected PANDAS (OCD caused by strep infection) but the only time he’s reported intrusive thoughts was when he was on clenil. Luckily he doesn’t seem to need it at the moment… hopefully that continues. Hope that helps?
