My DD is 6 and been on ethosuximide for 18 months for absence seizures. It took a while for the medication to work but she has now been seizure free for 9 months.
I would say that each time we upped her dosage she got a little tired and a bit of nausea but it soon settled down- no real mood changes etc.
however for the last 3 months I have send significant changes in her mood- she used to be so vibrant and positive and now everything is ‘just ok’ and ‘not bad’. She seems more lacklustre and negative. She also has noticeable anxiety where she never had this before.
i am wondering if this is a side effect of being on ethosiximide for a prolonged period of time- has anyone had experience of mood changes after a long time on medication even if there was nothing at the start?
DD supposed to be 2 years seizure free before coming off the medication but I’m inclined to push for this to start sooner- but I don’t know if this will then endanger her to more or worse seizures.
I do also notice her concentration and memory are poor which I don’t think helps her mentally- and I also wonder if this is due to medication. Just really don’t know what to do for the best.
