Genital herpes diagnosed at 38 weeks

Wondering if anyone can offer some advice. I was tested for GH at 38 weeks, it’s just come back as positive (now 39 weeks) and am waiting for blood test results to see what type it is and if I have any antibodies which would let us know if this is my initial exposure or not. I have been taking acyclovir since the day I was tested and will continue until delivery. I am aware that the risk to the baby is highest when GH is caught late in pregnancy so I am worried sick. For context my partner of 8 years gets cold sores every few years, we had oral sex around 8 weeks ago and unfortunately he came out in a cold sore a week or so later. My symptoms came on about a week ago and I haven’t had any symptoms before. I am booked in for a c section this week due to my baby being breech which I am told will reduce the risk to my baby catching it as he will avoid being exposed to the lesions (which have pretty much healed already). However I am aware that the baby could catch it in utero and im worried I’ve caused irreversible damage or worse that it could kill him. My question is, has anyone been diagnosed with GH late in pregnancy and had a c section, and was the baby ok after delivery? I’m worried sick, i can’t sleep or eat or focus on anything else. I hate myself for causing this. I have spoken to my midwife and doctor who have said the risk of my baby catching the virus is very small as I will be having a section so he will avoid passing through where the lesions were, but I still can’t stop worrying that we will be part of the small % that is effected. Someone please help me. Thank you

Maybe talk to your midwife.

I have. She told me not to worry but I can’t stop it. Would like to hear what the outcome was for others that have been in the same situation.

I don't have experience but just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through this. Please don't blame yourself, it's impossible to prevent absolutely everything that can happen.

I'm also sure your baby will be fine, you don't have much longer to wait to be reassured, be kind to yourself and focus on your mental wellbeing until then. Maybe light yoga/meditation?
