I know it doesn't feel this way, but it's actually good the eeg captured abnormal activity.

Very often it remains hidden and they are reluctant to give a diagnosis and prescribe medication to get the epilepsy under control.

"abnormal EEG" can mean anything from changes suggesting typical absence type seizures (very treatable), non-specific brainwave changes that might not represent seizures at all (really common finding including in completely seizure-free individuals), or other variants of course concern. "absence" episodes as described by parents commonly are not seizures but it takes an expert to properly assess the story, EEG, and any videos. It's frustrating to wait but really vital not to leap into a diagnosis or jump to any conclusions until the appropriate person has had a chance to put the info together.
