My son is 3. Over the last year his diet has reduced as he doesn't want anything he used to eat. At first I thought it was the normal fussiness but now he's refusing almost everything except toast and biscuits. His usual fave is weetabix . But the last 4 days he's eaten some then said he doesn't like it. Tried porridge. Tried it but stuck his tongue out like the texture was making him gag. He won't eat dinner unless it's ravioli in a tin. Gags on pasta usually. He was eating mashed potato but not even that now. He suffers with constipation and I cant even get the meds down him now as it goes in food. He won't now eat fruit either. Says it tastes funny.

Any ideas? I'm going to talk to gp on Monday but I'm worried I'll be brushed of as typical toddler behaviour but I feel it's more than that.

Hi I know this is really scary as we have been through it with our daughter who had an extremely rigid and restricted diet for years from an early age. Best thing to do atm is try not to pass on your anxiety and give him what he will accept.

You need to look at ARFID
There’s a FB group and really helpful books.
The authors of the book below are both Clinical Psychologists and really helped our daughter.

There’s also some helpful factsheets on the Infant and Toddler Forum ( 2.1,2.2,2.3)

He’s eating “ safe beige carbohydrates “
If you think about fruit there are so many variations in texture and taste so it is unknown wheres a branded biscuit will always look and taste exactly the same.

Thanks for that. He's been worse since his jabs last Wednesday but will have a look at astrid.

Oh no yes that would fit, returning to comfort foods if feeling “ off”
