DC 3 has just woken up screaming. Has a temp of 38 and had a bad dream. I think caused by temp.

Lips and tongue v red and he's swallowing lots. He said tongue feels hot but that nothing is sore

Scarlet fever. Is his tongue red ?

Whyemseeaye · 09/07/2023 21:26

Yes quite red! And his lips are redder than usual and a bit pouty.

I've given nurofen and temp has reduced down to normal now.

I thought measles but no rash and I don't know if the red tongue is a symptom of that. We have a lot of cases where I leave currently

If his lips are swollen I’d be concerned about allergy, keep an eye on that.

If you think his tongue is swollen you need to go to A&E as it could be an allergic reaction and a swollen tongue can restrict your airway.

Thankfully no swelling in the tongue. Just red and he's swallowing lots and dribbling a bit

I've tried to get a look at his tonsils and one side did look quite swollen.

He's asleep now his temp is back down. Will ring the GP in the morning. Thanks so much x
