4yo - sudden reflux/regurgitating food

Hi everyone

My 4 year old has in the last week gone from being completely fine with eating, to suddenly having quite dramatic burping episodes after every meal. She’s pretty much bringing back up half mouthfuls of food (but not being sick).

It feels pretty alarming that it’s come on so suddenly! Has anyone had experiences of this, and are there any tips and tricks to help? She seems worse if I give more water, but that’s difficult to test as she has to drink sometime… Her diet i would say is pretty good, she likes her fruit and veg etc. I’m nervous her throat is starting to get sore as she’s started coughing more now.

Other relevant info is that it doesn’t appear to bother her (she sort of seems to find it funny?) and she’s recently learned to do sit down jumps on a trampoline so not sure if she’s somehow managed to do herself an injury. Clutching at straws I know! All other digestion seems fine, regular bowel movements etc.

Grateful for any help and advice

Should add I have a gp appt in two weeks but I’m after tips to help her in the meantime.

Is she burping a lot generally?

My DD (3.5 at the time) had a thing where she started burping really frequently, would occasionally complain of stomach pain when lying down at night, and a couple of times would bring up a little bit of sick with a burp at night (soon after lying down).
The GP prescribed some gaviscon to give, I think after every meal, and it fixed it. This was 6 months ago now and it hasn't been a problem since. I don't know what the initial cause was though.

@WeWereInParis thanks for replying, yes she is now burping a lot. She has always been a bit burpy which I’ve always put down to her being a fast eater… but the bringing up of food is definitely new.
