Smelly toddler breath

Hi all,
My 16 month old suddenly has terrible breath, has been going on for 3 days now.
Oral hygiene is very good, we brush twice a day, doesn't eat or drink anything sugary / fizzy. We have been to the dentist for a general check up about 4 weeks ago (he has 8 teeth) and everything is great.
Any experience with this? It's so unpleasant that we almost want to stay away from him when he is sleeping on us.
He has just started nursery and came down with a bug about 2 weeks ago and is teething at the moment - I wonder if it has anything to do with this?
Any advice appreciated, thank you!

I bet he's coming down with a bug! I always used to notice what I called sick breath in mine before they came down with something.

Yep probably due to being poorly , my little boy is 2.5 and its one of the signs for when I know he's coming down with something... his breath stinks!

Sick breath definitely a thing. You can smell it before symptoms start. Make sure you’re stocked up on the calpol, vapour rub etc.

It's the bug, my DS has the most horrific breath when he's poorly. It really affects me, which is tricky when all he wants to do is cuddle 🤢

He might be coming down with something, he might be cutting a tooth, or (if he has hay fever) it might be coming from his sinuses. My DS gets that, especially if he has been eating dairy.

Tonsil stone?

Thanks all, it's gone today. He was in a very bad mood the past few days and today suddenly he is really happy as he normally is. I wonder he was feeling a bit under the weather!
