My son is turning 10 and we will give him something relatively expensive (tend to buy something "big" rather than many things for each of the kids on their big day). Now, he is asking for a hoverboard or oculus vr set. Both are not really safe or suitable for his age imo. Anyone with great ideas to share?

Nintendo switch? New bike? What about a day at a theme park of his choosing? My DS is same age and I usually got him football lots (he’s obsessed with football!). Or what about a red letter type activity? I bought DH a helicopter ride a few years ago and he took DS with him and he loved it

What does he actually enjoy/play with at the moment? Has he chosen those 2 items because he feels he has to ask for something big and expensive but actually he would prefer a £35 Lego set or a box set of Harry Potter books.
Do you need to actually get him something big and expensive?

Thanks. He loves football. But also tech stuff. But you have a good point there. Maybe there is no need for expensive stuff (I probably think too much about "equality" between the kids...).

Oculus is fine for his age group.
