Fever and blotches on legs

Hi all,

My nine-year old DS hasn't been well for a couple of days - started with pains beneath his tummy area, followed by a fever. He's had the fever for 36 hours now (between 38.4 and 39.5 whenever I've taken his temp today) and over the course of the day has developed some 'blotches' on his legs (don't know what else to call them!). I know that sometimes viruses cause rashes to appear, but I can't find anything similar when I look them up. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? They're on his thighs down to his knees, and he's just started to develop a few on his ankles and the sides of his feet.

Wow, this is exactly what my 7 yr old DD has just had! The fever, nausea and aches and pains came first, then the spots appeared on her legs and a few on her groin overnight. She also got a small cluster on her fist and a few on her arm and shoulder.
We initially thought it was Chicken Pox and have kept her off school all week, but now the spots haven't scabbed over (it's been 5 days since they first appeared), they're more like bruises now and she seems like she's starting to get back to her wee self, although still a bit tired and has less appetite.
Haven't a clue what it is! Watching thread with interest.
Hope your DS feels better soon🤒. Xo

They look viral to me- are they raised at all? Itchy? If not I’d assume viral and keep going with alternating calpol and nurofen to keep him comfortable and see how he does over next couple of days.
the only rash other than the non blanching one I look out for is the scarlet fever rash but it’s definitely not that - it’s an all over raised red sunburn rash that’s incredibly itchy and your little one looks like it’s patches dotted around so my guess with his symptoms and temp range is viral. Hope he feels better soon and you get some rest xx

Thank you for your replies @Prismsandrainbows and @wobblymum1

The blotches aren't raised or itchy, and they disappear if I press a glass over them. I think I might give our GP a call in the morning if his temp is still not coming down, just to be on the safe side.

I feel a little more relaxed having read your comments, so thank you for taking the time to reassure me and for your well wishes x
