Tonsillitis- gp or wait it out?

Very healthy 10 year old started with cough and cold about 10 days ago, which then turned into a sore throat. I’ve had a look with my phone torch and can see white patches on left hand side tonsil which is the side he’s complaining about. No fever, but saying tonight he feels huge pressure on left ear when lying on it and sore neck so I’m guessing lymph nodes are up on that side.
is this gp worthy?
my dd gets tonsillitis regularly and it’s always strep that then turns to scarlet fever and she’s very poorly with high fevers and classic rash.
so I’m wondering if my son “just” has viral tonsillitis and a go trip will be a wasted one or if it warrants a look by someone other than my not very trusty phone torch light 🤦‍♀️Thank you!

I would go to the GP. I wouldn’t want to see my child be very poorly, knowing that a simple trip to a doctor would make sure it is just a simple case of tonsillitis and nothing more.
