DD feeling ill hours before we head off on holiday

DD (15) has taken quite a sore throat, sore head and high temp this evening. Covid negative.
However, we are due to fly out tomorrow at noon.
Would pharmacist give antibiotics just in case it gets progressively worse?

You can buy antibiotics in Spain and Portugal. Where are you going?

Not in my area they wouldn’t. I didn’t think any pharmacists in England could prescribe antibiotics (yet).

No. The NHS said that antibiotics do not help colds, flu etc

I would make sure you’ve got plenty of ibuprofen and paracetamol and make sure she takes the maximum dose of each alternating them so she’s got something working all the time. Plus diflam spray or something similar and get her to gargle with salt water. Keep her hydrated and hope she’s feeling better in a day or two. Have you got decent travel insurance?

My GP has given us ABs to take on holiday just in case but that was for kids who were getting recurrent ear infections. The vast number of illnesses like this don’t need antibiotics, it’s most likely a virus. Where are you going? Is there medical care readily available?

Thanks. We are going to Dalaman in Turkey so not EU, although we are well covered with travel insurance.

Thanks for all advice.

No wonder we’re facing AB resistance! 😳

Scary isn’t it, I try not to think about it!

Knitmepurlme my daughter hasn't had antibiotics often. Indeed, I'd struggle to recall the last time she needed them.

However, a throat infection is the very thing that she has needed them for in the past and the likelihood is that being on a plane for the journey could well exacerbate the issue. My question was a precautionary one.

I believe It's the bacteria that becomes resistant to antibiotics. It has nothing to do with how often a particular person has had them
