Rash around 2 Yr old waistline

Hi everyone,

As usual Google is all doom gloom and doesn't actually answer my question.

My 2 year old son has a wrap around rash that started small but appears to be spreading (photos attached of the rash) - it sits on the waist where his nappy and clothing may potentially be rubbing (but he also has a small light patch at the top of his back). It's not causing him any bother but I'm currently letting him be free baby round the house without his nappy on.

I'm thinking it's a simple sweat rash, but nursery let me know that another boy in his room currently has chicken pox.

Any one have any idea what it could be or anyone have a toddler that has had this too?

Obviously with it being the weekend I'm unable to see a GP to confirm, hence asking the mums net community.

Let me know what you think.

My DD had a rash in a similar place - it was eczema from sitting in a bubble bath!

CaptainSweatpants89 · 24/06/2023 17:55

@Numbersarefun thank you for that - I was thinking just some innocent rash from clothing/sweat/warm weather etc.

I guess my only concern is it hasn't gone down and appears to be spreading.

Cloth or disposable nappies? If the latter it's probably just a sweat rash against the plastic of the nappy. If the former it could be washing powder build up on the elastics which may suggest a strip wash is in order.

Sweat/ heat rash

Thank you @Oldermum84 and @Diddykong your insights are reassuring.

Plastic disposable nappies are used. Looks worse than it is 👍

I agree with others, sweat and heat rash. It's hard to avoid in this weather where plasticy materials are being used unfortunately. Keep wiping the area with a wet flannel to help with cleaning the sweat, and cooling the toddler down.

This isn’t what you want to hear but when my DD had a rash like that around her waistline it turned out to be chicken pox.

CaptainSweatpants89 · 24/06/2023 19:23

@INeedAnotherName thank you for the tip - I didn't know if moistening the area would make it worse, I've tried to keep it clean and dry. Good to know.

You guys are super helpful thank you. Except you @N4ish - please don't confirm what I suspect 😂just kidding. How did you confirm it was C'Pox? GP visit on Monday? Did your little one itch at all?
