Soft squashy lump on baby’s head

Hi mums!
I wondered if any of you had a similar issue. For over a month my baby has a soft squashy lump on top of his head. It disappears when you press it with your finger. Pictures attached. He is 10 weeks old now. We visited the GP and waiting for the referral for an ultrasound but I thought meanwhile I may ask other mums maybe somebody had a similar issue. The GP thought it might be a vein- some sort of vein valve pathology. The lump does look blueish sometimes.

My baby is 9 weeks old and has one similar. Dr thought it could be a blood vessel as she thoguht it got smaller as you rub over it. My oldest is under a peadatrition and is due to see him next week where he will take a look at baby.

it looks very similar. I hope it is just the blood vessel. Please let me know what the paediatrician tells next week. I am still waiting for the ultrasound referral.

Hi, thank you for replying. I am still waiting for the referral for an ultrasound so I don’t have news about our lump unfortunately. If they won’t send a letter this week I will do it privately. I am anxious to wait so long with this lump on his head. I will update if I know anything more X

Hi
we did a private scan today. The doctor said it looks like a fibroma and nothing to worry about. He said babies get all kind of lumps and bumps. It can be due to some small mechanical trauma , like a scratch that could have been infected. It might stay there or resolve overtime. I said it seems like our boy’s lump grew a bit bigger since may when it first appeared. He said it should not get bigger than it is now. We will also go for our ultrasound from NHS for a second opinion once they send us an appointment letter X

How long have you waited for your nhs scan. Then peadatrition had a look at my little boy but wants to see him again next week when he has his medical notes. Hopefully your boys lump is nothing to worry about and doesn't grow anymore. How old is your little boy. Xx

I am still waiting for the NHS scan. The referral was made on the 9th June by the GP, we didn’t even receive the appointment letter yet. That is why I went private today, as I was anxious waiting and not knowing what’s the little one has on his head. He’s 12 weeks old. Let me know how your little boy is after your appointment, I hope it’s nothing to worry about Xx

Hi there, may I ask whether your children’s lumps have reduced/ disappeared or if not did you manage to get a scan or proper diagnosis?
My son has the same sort of soft lump on his head. He is 3 months. GP has said it is nothing to worry about but I think it may have got bigger. Waiting to hear whether the paediatrician will agree to see him. Hoping for some reassurance on the mean time. Thank you

Hi ,

I think my sons may of reduced in size touchwood , the ultrasound suggested a hematoma 3 drs looked at it and thought the same. The drs tried an mri but it really unsettled my little one if it grows they will do a sedated mri scan. Drs have said it can be caused by trauma of birth im not sure if my baby had it from birth as we noticed when he started to loose hair from his sleep position. I hope your little one is ok my little one is back to peadatrition in a few weeks whete i think they will neasure the lump again his older brother sees him which i think helped get him seen quicker.

Hi! my boy’s lump is still there and it grew a bit bigger since my initial post. I did two scans for him both confirmed fibromous tissue and minor vascular malformation. They said it is nothing to worry about but none could confirm whether it will stop growing or disappear. They said it may stop or may grow bigger, or it may reduce and disappear in size. The most important for me it’s benign. Hopefully it will not grow anymore and then the hair grows over it and if he’s older and wants it removed he could do that. We also have an appointment with paediatrician on the 25th of September for a review.

I know this is an old thread but please could I ask how your babies are doing now?
my dn has a similar lump and after the ultrasound it sounds like it could be a similar type of thing. She should have an mri next week.

Hi, my DS is nearly three years old and his lump has disappeared completely at around when he turned 1. It grew initially to the size of a grape but was always soft and then it just gone on its own. So if they said similar to what we had then please don’t worry, hopefully it will go away soon xxx

Thanks so much for replying. I’m really glad to hear your little boy is going well. I really hope the same for DN.
