Help non stop cough in 1 year old

Hi,

My daughter is 14 months old and has had an awful cough for the last 7 weeks. She has now lost her voice for the second time and has had laryngitis and tonsillitis a few weeks ago. She has had two courses of antibiotics and a couple of doses of steroids so keen for her to avoid having any further drugs unless absolutely requited. The nursery seem quite surprised about the severity and length of the cough which makes me think its unusual but the gp keeps saying it's a viral thing which can last 6-8 weeks.

Anyone had similar experiences of coughs lasting this long or longer? Are there other potential underlying conditions that can cause this type of persistent cough in toddlers we should be getting investigated? I don't massively trust my gp based on prior experiences

Any help greatly appreciated

Mel

My 14mo is the same!

For the last 2+ months he’s had a cough to some degree.

I think it’s lots of different viruses he keeps picking up. Some children are just more susceptible I think.

He often gets a fever with it, and one time it was a chest infection needing antibiotics. He’s had four courses of antibiotics since he was born, for various things!

Maybe ask your GP about asthma?

But hopefully they’ll both get better as they get older. Should have amazing immune systems after all this.
