Conjunctivitis or something else?

Hello

My 8 month old DS had very gunky eye yesterday and later in the day began to scream in pain whilst eating dinner and had only 300ml of formula all day.

After a 12 hour sleep it was evident he had only done one small wee in those 12 hours. After initially cleaning his eye and him crying in pain the eye has cleared up. He has however not wanted any food at all today instead crying out in pain. He also gets excited when he sees his bottle but after a few sips he cry’s. Does manage small amounts of water though.

He has no temp but very clingy.

Any ideas?!

It is most likely a virus or maybe tonsillitis. His nappies will be dry because he’s not drinking or eating but they dehydrate very quickly. I would take him to a & e personally. He’s so young. I’d try and get Hugh sugar drinks into him by syringe in the mouth - apple juice is good as it will give sugars etc but I’d definitely be taking him in if i didn’t get a decent amount of liquid into him.

I too would be concerned with lack of wee at 8 months.
My daughter had a horrendous virus with conjunctivitis and raging temperatures last year and I had to take her to the doctor's as she was refusing to go to the toilet (3 at the time) holding it in and screaming in pain when it inevitably came out, no uti, but a very bizarre virus. It could be a similar virus, but at 8 months I would be super alert for further signs of dehydration and be getting them seen if not weeing more and soon.

Doctor gave the standard response; “it’s a virus”
