DS has had a fever since Sunday.

Currently just over 24hrs into a course of penicillin although dr thought it could be viral.

Temperature is now 40.6 heart rate 135. Would you get him seen again? He does get high temperatures but not normally this high. He's 9

Yes definitely according to me.

Did you give him paracetamol or ibuprofen?

Keep him cool, weather is too hot too!

saltedpretzel2 · 14/06/2023 00:28

I would call 111 for advice. None of us can tell you if he is well or not over the internet and he’s worse than when he was seen so running him past someone is acceptable

Laserbeam24 · 14/06/2023 01:07

Yeah I would want him seen to. If paracetamol isn't controlling the temp he defo needs seen. Heart rate also seems high. Defo a call to 111.

Yes get him seen again.

I vividly remember a pharmacist in some far-flung place selling me a thermometer and saying, "40 hospital doctor". Especially if he's on painkillers.

Is hos temperature coming down with meds?

What kind of infection?

When did he last wee?

135 heart rate is high, but he is poorly & has a temperature but still abit to high for my liking

What is his o2 sats? Resp rate?

BabyST · 14/06/2023 14:43

His heart rate sounds high but is only a little over normal and that’s perfectly fine when he has a fever. His range for a 9 year old is 80-120. You’d be concerned if it was 20+ out of range. Have you given him regular paracetamol and ibuprofen to try and bring it down. Also what clothing has hue got on when he has such a fever. I recommend you get him down to his underwear only. Leave the air get to his body. He’s going to feel cold don’t wrap him up you’ve got to be cruel to be kind. Push plenty of water and a cool shower when washing him
