Worried about ds12

Ds came home from school on Friday upset. Said he felt ill, had felt tired and sick all day. Had a slight fever. Then threw up 4 times on Friday night.

He slept fine on Friday, on Saturday seemed to perk up and played mini golf. Since then tho has been very lethargic and off his food. Barely eaten much at all since Friday morning, nibbling on odd bit of toast. Just now Has just had a small potato and bit of chicken, and asked for some yoghurt.

Says he has no energy- says he is worried about food tech at school tomorrow as he will have to be on his feet for the hour.

This is not like him at all- normally he has a massive appetite and always active. Plays rugby, cricket, full of beans etc.

Could it just be that this bug has knocked him for six? Just so unlike him.

How long before I worry about the loss of appetite? He is still drinking plenty.

You dont send someone who has vomited out to play minigolf and share his virus...

Anyway it s only been two days since he vomited.
Have him take monday off to rest

If he still unwell by friday call gp
Or he get s high temp and has meningitis signs

Don’t worry about the lack of food as long as he’s drinking. He will perk up, keep him off school til he does

SparklingMarkling · 11/06/2023 16:43

Maybe it is just a bug. I wouldn’t overly worry just yet but it’s hard not too if it’s so out of character for him. Fingers crossed he perks up.

He shouldn't havr played mini golf after being sick all night. It's hot and he wasnt well. I suspect a good night's sleep tonight and he will feel much better.

TrianglePlayer · 11/06/2023 16:51

Yep the first thing I thought was that he shouldn’t have been out at mini golf, unless you have your own private mini golf in your back garden. I doubt those clubs get cleaned between users 🤢

Thanks for replies.

I didn't want to drip feed but I was away since Thursday and just got back yesterday. This was dh's account of how he'd been. Take everyone's point about the mini golf.

He has had some breakfast this morning but still no energy at all.

Would it be normal to be so fatigued like this after vomiting bug?

Yes, completely normal. Especially if he hasn't eaten much. And while he's drinking, it's probably very hot and he will need more.

Try getting him to drink some coke or other high calorie liquids to kick start his energy levels and bring back his electrolytes.

Ok will try that thanks

My Dd schools nearly all had the bug.
I also didn’t eat much for two whole weeks .
mMy appetite came back on week 3
if he’s been unwell then this is plenty to get him started but not a normal every day dinner for an active child his age .
