My 12yo DS has quite bad IBS and is extremely embarrassed by it. He struggles with excessive gas and is on a low FODMAP diet although still gets quite bad. He’s usually very modest so farting gives him anxiety and if he holds it in he gets stomach pains. What can I do tell help him?

Ah poor lad. Not sure on ages for this but it might be worth asking the pharmacist about products like windeeze. You can get specific products that can help with wind/gas/bloating.
Hope the fodmap helps I know its a tough diet but must be awful for your son.

Bless him. I think there is a few things he can do and my daughter had really bad constipation recently and passing wind is part of it sadly although she had more cramps and bloating.

You can always get him to walk away from people and let his wind pass, we have movicol and buscapan for the constipation but we are not on a diet plan.

There's another one called Colpermin that can help with gas. It's peppermint based. I'm not sure the age ranges on it but worth looking at.

Thanks for your message, I’ve been trying ti reassure him that it is what it is and that everyone farts, it’s normal. He has said he avoids it at school at all costs which makes the problem worse etc etc.

thank you I’ll check those out
