My 2.5 yo constantly unwell

Hi Everyone,

Wanting to reach out to other Mum’s to see if this is normal. I am a first time Mum and for the first 18 months I was lucky enough that my little one never seemed to catch any illnesses, bugs etc. She is now 2.5 and I feel constantly has a cough or cold! She may have a day or 2 seeming as though she clears it and then bang another one appears. Sometimes she can have a slight temp just before, sometimes nothing. She started nursery in March for 2 days a week and I know this is what they say happens but surely this unwell for this long isn’t normal?

I have spoken to the Dr’s but they said this is completely normal. I know I seem paranoid but I keep thinking all I overlooking something more serious!?

Any advise please Mums?

When did she start at nursery?
My little one wasn't unwell that frequently until he started at nursery, but it feels like he is all the time since he joined.
First 6 months after were the worst.

Try to remember that it's good for them - it's how children build immune system up.

Sorry didn't read properly that she started in March - perfectly normal.

Normal. My son has been like this since starting nursery age 2 and is now 4.5 years old. It was same with my older dd.

Perfectly normal as she builds up her immunity, will possibly last into next winter then should get better. If she wasn't going to nursery it would only delay it until starting school anyway

She started nursery in March

There's your answer. She's mixing with other kids, some of whom have siblings in local schools and none of whom have a complete grasp of hygiene so lots of opportunities to pass on infections. She should get better over Summer as there are fewer infections going round, then it all starts up again in Autumn. By the end of Winter she'll probably have caught up on all the bugs that are in your local community and she'll just be getting the latest ones, like we all do.

Better stock up on paracetamol.

Totally normal - on the plus side she'll build her immunity now, and subsequently her school attendance will be great.

Kids who don't go to nursery/mix with a range of other children also go through this - but in their first year of school.

FYI - as a teacher I can confirm we also go through it in our first year of teaching!

Normal. My dd is 4 and still picks up everything, she's been at nursery since she was 2.

Thanks so much! I just can’t help but worry. That being said it seems to be very much the same for so many of you.

hopefully with the weather changing illnesses start slowing down!:)
