Hiya, just looking some advice for my son. I had brought it up with my doctor a while back but she wasn't worried about it. So roughly 7 months ago my son (7yo) started getting these intense headache at the back of his head near his neck very suddenly and crys out loadly. It is always followed by like projectile vomiting 2-3 times, and then within 15 minutes he is better. Now this was happening almost weekly it had calmed down the last month or 2 but is has happened twice in the last 2 weeks. I can't figure out what's causing it. We keep on him about drinking water, his diet he pretty normal for his age. No fizzy drinks, limited sweets. I want to go back to the doctor but I dont want it to brushed off again. So any advice would be amazing help

Then say that when you go. That he’s been sent home ( proves you’re not making it up) and that he’s missing education.

Take him for an eye test.
Optician can check for pressure in back of eye.

My son has this age 7, I did discuss it with a gp but they seemed to be only now and again, so we decided to wait and document. Now age 8 he hardly ever has them.

I’d keep going back to the dr and push for tests

Check out abdominal migraines. It may not be that but one of mine had very similar symptoms and this is what the paediatrician we were referred to diagnosed.

My daughter had this exact thing last week. I thought she had meningitis with the neck pain so took her to the hospital. Her urine sample came back with blood and protein and she was treated with antibiotics. The neck pain, headache and vomiting was caused by a fever. Her fever came and went.

JimnJoyce · 22/05/2023 22:18

migraine ?

Letsplayvets · 22/05/2023 22:20

Could it be cyclical vomiting syndrome?

randomjo · 22/05/2023 22:33

My dd's migraines started at age 7 and she has severe pain and vomiting, projectile like you describe. The pain usually subsides after the vomiting and sleep. Although her pain isn't at the back of her head, it's allover.

My daughter used to have this but soon grew out of it. 😊

Personally, I'm surprised he hasn't been referred for a scan, especially as my paed consultant told me that vomiting with headaches requires investigation? Hope he's OK but I would go back to the GP and push for a scan. There are other mums on here who do advocate for imaging if a child presents with these symptoms due to experiencing the same issues with their DC and it was quite serious (please note, I don't mean to frighten / alarm but just going by what I was told first hand / what I've seen on MN). Hope your boy is OK
