Doctor didn’t seem to know but took pictures, any ideas?

How old is the baby? As in, has cord just dropped off? I mean if the doc didn’t know then I’m sure I don’t, but we were advised to put salt onto my daughter’s belly button as she had some granulation. It dried up and fell off after a couple of days. Worth a shot maybe as I can’t see what harm it would do?
Wash, cover normal skin in Vaseline, cover growth in salt, cover, repeat after say 12 hours.

Prefacing this with the fact that I have no medical knowledge, but could it be an umbilical hernia? Our eldest had one when he was little but the doctor was easily able to identify it. I'd ask to see another doctor, if you can.

That's a hernia.

missgraciea · 16/05/2023 15:10

She is 2.5 years old, a hernia? She doesn’t seem in any pain at all.

My DS had an umbilical hernia. It wasn't at all painful. They're pretty common. He needed a small op under GA as his was large. Small ones often sort themselves out in time.

Did you find out what it was

Littlegoth · 04/01/2024 04:46

@Bellbell2023 not the OP but my July baby had something that looked this when she was a few weeks old and it was an umbilical granuloma. Doc advised to bathe it in salt water and it dropped off after a week.
