My DD has just started penicillin for potential strep A (24 into the course. Throat already feeling less sore and fever less high.
however she is covered in an itchy
rash that isn’t getting better and I don’t like the look of her torso ones which aren’t blanching. They feel sort of rough. She can’t stop itching and rash everywhere else looks like sunburn. Can’t give her any more antihistamine. would you just persevere with antibiotics or does she need seen with rash? would mean a&e here as rural and its a Sunday. Thank you.

She needs to be seem or at least call 111. Hope she feels better soon.

Get her seen - it's possible she's allergic to the penicillin. That's how my DH's allergic reaction started and it ended up with him on a new antibiotic for the infection, with pain relieving gel for the reaction on his hands and all the skin on his hands and feet went scaly and lumpy and sloughed off a few weeks later....!

Strep A can cause scarlet fever which causes a rough rash. Hopefully if she already has antibiotics then she has the right thing and will start to feel better soon.
I would ring 111 for advice.

Could be an allergy to penicillin or could be scarlet fever.
I'd phone 111 for advice.

It looks like the scarlet fever rash associated with strep A. My daughter had it about 2 months ago. She was seen in the morning when strep A was suspected and then the rash appeared later that evening so she was seen again at A&E. The doctors were happy to see her as the rash was frightful at the time but ultimately it was fine and it went away as did strep. I would get her checked at A&E. Best wishes to you both OP x

How is your DD @wobblymum1? x

wobblymum1 · 16/05/2023 13:35

Ahhhh thanks for asking.
rash worsened and they thought it was bleeding under the skin so ended up being kept in for bloods as they were worried about low platelets. She’s now on day 4 of penicillin and much better, rash still itchy and sore looking but she’s much better, thank you for asking xx
