Stretch marks on 12 year old

Do kids get stretch marks? Maybe from a growth spurt? DS who is 12 has what look very like stretch marks all down either side of his back. None anywhere else I've noticed. Is this a thing?

Yes quite common. They usually fade with age but they can get self conscious. I would try to ignore unless they say something.

Really common at his age . If they go really angry or purple you can use some moisturiser or try bio oil

Yes. I got them aged 8 on my thighs. DS got them on his back around age 11. Big tiger stripe ones. He was growing rapidly. They eventually faded, took a few years. Never bothered him. I've seen lots of men with them onctheir backs from their younger years.

My 9 year old has suddenly grown a lot in last few months and has them on his thighs - he’s not mentioned them so I’m not either.

Both my boys got them on their backs when they hit puberty

snoozingbaby1476 · 11/05/2023 22:40

Yes my 12yo DD has them & I had them quite young. Doesn't seem to bother her

Blackbirdblue30 · 11/05/2023 22:41

I got them on hips at around 11 when I was starting to develop. They faded to silver pretty quickly and in adulthood are barely noticeable. Most girls will have some.

My son had them on his back. Only noticed when we went to centre parcs. But five years later they have gone. We didn’t do anything with them.

Yes thats exactly where my son has them as well on either side of his back.

Yes, DD has them and I've seen them on lots of young teens in her swimming club. Some are really prominent but as others have said they fade.
