Amoxicillin dose for child

My little girl has had a terrible cough and yesterday was given amoxicillin at the out of hours surgery (who was actually a paramedic). Now he said he would look up the dose and said we'll she's 5 so she can have 10ml of 250mg/5ml 3 times a day for 5 days. So 500mg every 8 hours.
Now at the time I didn't question it but now I'm worrying that's too much for her. Her brother is 4 but much heavier than she is and he only gets 5ml at a time when prescribed it. She is only 16kg and when I looked it up I'm sure she should inly ne on 5ml based on weight rather than age. I've tried ringing the dr who said 5ml is fine, and when u said well its 10ml she has been prescribed she said oh yes...well that will be fine too 🫣 I was under the impression they should be given at the lowest does for the shortest time possible and this seems to be more than the max to me. I'm worried she is going to be getting unnecessary side effects.

It's quite clear if you look in the children's BNF online.

I would pop into a pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist. Dosage goes on weight not age, so her age is irrelevant.

Anyone aged 5 or over gets 500mg 3x daily- that's the standard dose.
I'm a GP.

Thanks all. I guess I didn't understand ehy the guidelines are so generalised that as soon as you're 5 boom the dose is doubled no matter what size you are 🙈 when other things you read state it should be calculated on weight. Her weight is of an average 4 year old so seems odd but 🤷🏼‍♀️
