Hi everyone! Looking for a reality check!
My almost 2 year old has had a hellish run of nursery illnesses the last year. I have awful health anxiety but have been getting treatment for this, but as a result my ‘instinct’ is wacky and unreliable! I always know when something is off, but wildly exaggerate what the likely cause is and need reality checked sometimes!
Last weekend he developed a cough and had a hoarse voice. For the next few days he just wasn’t himself with zero energy and no appetite, culminating with a mild temperature and then streaming nose. The cough and nose seem to have settled down and energy levels when awake seem much better.
My concerns are: he’s still sleeping more than usual. Around 12 hours overnight (whereas usually we’d get 10, 11 if we were really lucky) and 2 hour nap during the day. Doesn’t sound too much but it’s unusual for him. He’s never been a huge sleeper, and whilst during the day nap can be longer, nighttime has never been like this before. And whilst his appetite is better, he’s still eating around half of his usual amount.
His fingers are constantly poking around in his mouth right now, and from what I can see he had his final two canines on the bottom coming up, and 2 of his remaining 3 second molars moving under the gum too.
Does this sound like a combo of viral illnesses recovery and teething? I thought about making a doctor appointment, but I honestly don’t know what I’d say to them. He’s otherwise fine. He’s actually gained weight since his last check (he attends endocrinology for an unrelated issue and gets weighed regularly). Am I just being anxious here?
