Baby just not putting on weight

I’m at such a loss baby is 6.5 months old and has always struggled to put weight on. He’s on neocate for suspected CMPA, plenty of wet and dirty nappies. We’re still only foods first tastes for weaning as he didn’t take much interest to it.

he drinks the same amount 750-850ml (a day) as my nephew and he’s been climbing up the percentiles whereas my baby has been dropping them! (Still not been referred to peads) I’m at such a loss and I have no idea what it could be. He’s teaching all his milestones.

My mind automatically goes to hole in heart as I’ve been reading about babies with slow weight/loss and having holes in hearts. Would I be unreasonable to ask docs to refer us to check for this? Or has anyone else got experience of this and it turned out to be something else?

What are his energy levels and general health like OP? Does he sleep a lot or get ill a lot? Does he seem happy and comfortable most of the time? I would speak to your health visitor or GP if you're worried, regardless, but would be less concerned if he seems otherwise well and developing normally.
You say he's not that interested in solids, but maybe try just sitting him at the table with you at mealtimes and giving him a bit of what you're having to explore/taste/eat? Try to time it so that his milk feeds and offering solids are spaced out – so for example – milk at 7am, breakfast at 8, milk at 10, lunch at 12, milk at 2, tea at 5, milk at 7....
Things like full fat plain yoghurt, grated cheese, avocado, scrambled egg and banana are great high-nutrient easy finger foods. Also bread stick or strips of toast with a dip like hummus or yoghurt or soup or fruit puree are good. Toast with smooth nut butter too.
We're all different in terms of build, how active we are, how much we love food. What sort of build are you and his dad?

He needs a paeds review. Why haven't you been referred?

Are you engaging with HV and GP?

SassyPants87 · 08/05/2023 23:02

@saxendaqs yes I’m constantly calling GP and HV both are saying because he’s happy alert, good nappy output and reaching milestones that it’s not anything to worry about and weight gain isn’t linear. He’s also under a dietician due to CMPA who never come back to us they are utterly useless. I’m tempted to pay for a private peads review but need to look into how much it costs
