Daughters symptoms worrying

Daughter is 3 pale, dark circles around eyes, tiredness, doesn't like to walk far, will ask to go in the pram but 2 yr old sister will walk and walk, she's 'dainty' but I haven't noticed extreme weight loss, can be a real sweaty sleeper. Nursery have noticed the tiredness and asked for a meeting with me. We decided to phone drs and got bloods done but they came back normal. She's got diarrhea at the moment and her temp shot up last night, seems better form today but still a bit warm to the touch.
Should I be worried about these symptoms and investigate further or is this just a 3 yr old thing? She sleeps well enough at night might stir for a drink but goes back over.

When you say her bloods were done, what didn't hey look at? Which percentile is she on for height and weight and has that changed?

Did they check for coeliac disease . My ds has this and he had very similar symptoms and got really unwell

PragmaticWench · 25/04/2023 22:20

I'd want to rule out coeliac with those symptoms. The sweaty at night rings a bell for DD around the time she was diagnosed.

If the diarrhea and spiking temps persists, ask whether the GP has considered inflammatory bowel disease - sadly on the rise in children - and whether they might do a fecal calprotectin or refer to gastro team.

My DD has Crohn's and her symptoms were very similar - pale, tired, dark circles, weight stuck - didn't actively lose weight, but fell down the percentiles as her friends grew. Diarrhea and random temperature spikes lasting 24 to 48 hours. She never complained of tummy pain.

How much sleep is she getting and what is her diet like? I give my DD (7) multi vitamin gummies which she seems to like. I try and limit her screen time too before bed and try and get her walking as much as possible. When she was 3 I remember having breaks during our walks to make sure she had a drink and a snack as she never drank much fluid. Even now I'm lucky if she drinks 500ml a day! I hope you get to the bottom of it and she feels better

My mum actually has coeliac

She sleeps well down at 7 asleep for 7.30 7.45 after a story and some chatting with her sister (who sleeps like a log). My mum has coeliac, she's complained sporadically about tummy pain and a headache. Says regularly she's 'not really well' but not sure if she's saying she feels unwell or if it's cuz I'm fussing round her and she's picking things up. She has a slight hernia but not enough to do anything ie shell grow out of it.
Bloods were just general not checking for anything specific.

Ask about IBD anyway. We thought DD had coeliac (lots in the family - 6 people including my dad, sister and several cousins ) but it turned out her genetic activation was to Crohn's and she isn't coeliac. I don't think coeliac usually causes sporadic fevers, that's more typical in IBD.

cestlavielife · 25/04/2023 22:56

Coeliac

DisquietintheRanks · 25/04/2023 23:08

If your mum is a coeliac then please get your dd tested as a matter of high priority. And yes, sadly, inflammatory bowel disease is another possibility.

In answer to your initial question, I think you should push for answers.

notapizzaeater · 25/04/2023 23:13

I was just about to query coeliac before I read your mum has it. She really needs testing for it.

Blossomandblooms · 27/04/2023 10:20

I am another one for coeliac disease as these were exactly my DD's symptoms prior to diagnosis. I thought she had leukaemia as she was so, so unwell (awful headaches that woke her from sleep and lasted for ages, general achiness, lose of weight, small stature, awful, swollen tummy). I would ask them to do a coeliac screen (DD's serum level was over the max reading level of 250 but they reckon hers was higher as she was so poorly). I hope you get an answer soon x
