DS6 Looks Constantly Washed Out

DS just turned 6.
He sleeps well, although is an early riser, has lots of energy and eats well, albeit a tad fussy recently.
However, whereas is sister looks glowing, he constantly looks washed out. Hollow dark eyes and pale. It’s to the point I’m getting a bit concerned now and not sure what I need to do.

Does he ever say he's unwell or in pain?

Being washed out is called "pallor" and the NHS take it quite seriously if its unusual for the child and coupled with fatigue, pains and tummy trouble...

If there are no other symptoms then up his vitamin intake. Our pediatrician recommended probiotics for children - they're in Boots.

Apparently a body fights infection from the inside so a good healthy stomach is the first step and go from there X

If he's well in all other ways could it just be his complexion? Are you or DH or other members of the family very pale skinned?

Dehydration?

Is he getting enough iron in his diet? I was surprised at how many of the children's vitamins didn't include iron.

I, occasionally, give my eldest ensure plus nutritional, meal replacement drinks. Just to boost him up a little.

Crispymandm · 08/04/2023 13:10

I’d maybe pop him to docs for a blood test, my son was similar and had other issues but turned out he was also iron deficient and had anemia. Once on strong prescribed iron he started to look so much healthier

Acunningruse · 08/04/2023 13:19

My DS was like this and it was found to be an iron deficiency (they did also test for diabetes as he was tired a lot). I was shocked that kids vitamin's don't include iron.

Merrow · 08/04/2023 13:25

We get the wellkids ones now that do have iron, only ones I saw at Boots that had it!

Thanks for the suggestions all!
He doesn’t complain of any pain and isn’t tired easily so I may get him some iron vitamins and monitor. If no improvement, I’ll get him to the GP for bloods.
