my toddler had a virus 3 months ago, since then he is not right.
He just had cereal with Milk and he is complaining of lower stomach pain under belly button. He says pain is severe.

And he makes regular normal stools but once in every two weeks he gets an episode of water diarrhoea. I don’t know if it’s another virus or related. Gp says not worried but I aM worried because he complain of pain each time he eats. Also he is burping a lot after food . Any advice is appreciated. Doctor gave me stool sample to drop off Monday to rule out h pylori, but I just want to see with anyone similar situation

Hey updating the forum in case a mum is going through same thing. my son lost 1kg, I took to A&E, they were not helpful.
Anyhow, today I gave him cow milk for breakfast instead of oats, and his symptoms came with vengeance. This confirms temp lactose intolerance. This makes me happy and sad. Do I have to give him vitamins because I removed dairy?

He needs calcium.

So look at his diet overall and see how you can increase his calcium.

You should be giving him a daily multivitamin anyway as he is under 5 but most don't have calcium in them because they contain iron.

If you do decide to supplement give the calcium supplement at a different time from his other multivitamin.

Oh and the lactose intolerance may not be temporary. It depends if his stomach issues resolve quickly or not. 🙁

@Babyhealthy it wasn't a stomach bug that started it but it was some kind of virus. He was ill with a temperature for a few days then started screaming in pain with his stomach. He seems to have flare ups then times when he is fine. He does have a milk allergy which he has had since birth but we knew about that anyway so not sure if it's a new allergy or what. He goes to the toilet regularly but can often have diarrhoea. Hoping to find out what's going on soon!

Hey i am the person that wrote this forum. My child is doing better. X ray revealed impaction and sever faecal loading. He needed disimpaction for two months and hospital admission !

Constipation can be caused by dairy allergy. That's dairy proteins not lactose so they need to go completely dairy free.

Its also worth knowing that dairy reactions can occur 72 hours after consumption so it could be something he eats 2-3 days before the pain.
