Hi
My whole family has had a nasty flu like illness since the end of February. Never had a virus as nasty or long lasting as this one - both me and my partner ended up on antibiotics as he developed a chest infection and I developed an ear infection which perforated my ear drum. We finally seem to have started to shift it but my eight month old daughter is still very congested with a runny nose. We visited the GPs a few weeks ago as she was being sick regularly with the mucus. The nurse prescribed some allergy syrup for the congestion and checked that her chest was clear. The syrup has helped and she hasn’t been sick as much, but today she has been irritable and was sick after lunch and her temp had raised to 38.5 - the first time I have noticed a temp since she has been unwell. It doesn’t appear I should contact 111 unless the temp is 39 or above so I have given her Calpol and the temp has come down. She is asleep now.
I am worried she is still unwell after so long. She is my first child, so I am wondering if it is normal for a virus to linger so long in babies? It’s been nearly six weeks.
