5yo diaherra at night

My 5yo has had diaherra at night for over a week.
Never had this before and he hasn't pooed at night since he was a tiny baby!

He's been unwell with a cold but I'm worried about this night time problem. It's also keeping him awake.
Took him to GP on Friday who says it normal with a virus but I've never experienced this before and being 5 he picks up lots of viruses/bugs from school.

Anyone else experience this? When did it stop? Should I take him back to docs?

Is it during his sleep? I wonder if it's overflow diarrhea from constipation.

My 8 month old has had the same issue the last couple of weeks, diarrhoea and sometimes vomiting but only at night - last night we had 4 changes of clothes! We’ve all had a stomach bug at the weekend so I wonder if he’s had it for a while and it’s just lingering but it’s so weird that in the day he’s fine.
