Very sore snotty nose

My one year old has had a terrible cold, her first one. She's been extremely snotty but it seems to have made her nostrils really sore. in the morning I am trying to clean her nose from the night with a warm damp flannel, but the snot has crusted on and I can't get it off without her absolutely screaming. I think the actual nostrils have got very sore I can see little cracks and there's been a bit of bleeding. I just don't know what to do for her and she's permanently got caked on snot all around her nostrils and I just don't know what to do.

Any suggestions?

Bepanthen, the nappy rash cream, is marvellous for soothing sore cracked noses from lots of wiping. Vaseline will do too but wipes odd easier.
apply a dap every time you wipe her nose. It will soon heal.

Do you think sudacrem or metanium would be the same? We're away and I don't have any bepanthan with us

I’ve never used metanium but I imagine, as a barrier cream, it would do the same. I wouldn’t like the scent of sudocrem up my nose constantly so I wouldn’t personally use that.

Good point about the smell of sudacrem. I don't mind it so have never given it any thought. I'll see if I can get some bepanthan tomorrow. Thank you so much for responding!

My ds had this over half term, it was awful. His nose bled when we wiped it. We tried to only wipe once a day to let it heal between and put Vaseline on while he was asleep. It took almost two weeks to heal properly. I hope you're little one is better soon
