Ear infection keeps coming back?!?

Hey everyone! Looking for a bit of advice/reassurance.

DS developed his first ever ear infection 4 weeks ago. After a 5 day course of Amoxicillin it seemed to clear up.

The next week he had Hand, Foot and Mouth (yay nursery). Wasn’t unwell, just the rash and ulcers. The week later his ear became pussy again, but with no obvious symptoms before it except a very mild temp. Another 5 day course of Amoxicillin later and it seemed to clear again. 3 days after the course finished he developed a typical cold - snotty nose and mucasy cough. No fever. Seems to be getting better now (4 days later)

Well today, once again, I noticed his ear was pussy. Doctor prescribed a 7 day course of Co-Amoxiclav. Doctor reckons it’s the same infection that’s not clearing with the Amoxicillin. He’s also teething his final two canines and I think final molars too. Doctor says that can all have an impact, and didn’t seem otherwise concerned. I asked about ENT as the doctor who prescribed the second course said if it happened again in short succession she’d refer him, but this doc said no - as there’s no other concerning things (high temp that won’t clear/fatigue etc) then the next step is swab if this course doesn’t work. He said only once the GP exhausts what they can do or are otherwise concerned would they refer to ENT.

I’ve been keeping the ear dry - is there anything else I can be doing to help? I have no experience with ear infections so no idea how to help! Anyone with kids who were prone to them who may have some mum-to-mum tips to help shift this? At my wits end here! Thanks!

Can I ask how things went OP?

I know not typical but it could be an immune response to something ekse- ask for full bloods. My dd use to get ear infection all the time, was diagnosed coeliac and literally has never had one in 5 years. Consultant said her body was so busy fighting coeliacs that ut didn't have strength to fight anything else.

Of course! It came back one more time, he had a 7 day course of co-amoxiclav, and that cleared it up and it’s not came back since! Doctor said there’s a common bacteria at pools that can take longer to clear so likely that.

Thank you but the problem did resolve - just a stubborn infection!
