Ear Infection

Just looking for some advice.

DD has been at the GP today after experiencing pain from one ear. GP looked into the said sore ear and said that it did look inflamed and there was some blood there so prescribed a 5 day course of amoxicillin. He then said that if it were to leak I was to keep that ear completely dry.
my question is, does this mean it is expected to perforate or is this not always the case? Also, if it does perforate should she be pain free and it will heal as she’s already on antibiotics or will another trip to the GP be in order?
Feeling like I’m on tenderhooks waiting for it to perforate and worried it’ll cause her more issues.

Oh I honestly don't know but if it did start to leak, I think I'd be straight back to the GP.

The leaking and perforation aren’t connected. My son perforated his ear drum without leaking. My daughter had rivers of pus and no perforation. The perforation was not ideal — yes, the pain stopped immediately but he needed extra antibiotic drops, had to wear earplugs in the bath, missed swimming and there is a risk of a deeper infection.
There must be a good chance that she gets better without any of this though, if you have already started antibiotics. Fingers crossed!

If you think she has perforated it (you’d be looking for extreme pain building that suddenly and completely stops) I would call 111 for advice on seeing the GP again.

Thank you for all your replies.
As of yet there has been no leakage or anything from her ear, she doesn’t seem to be complaining of the pain as much as she was yesterday so keeping everything crossed that the antibiotics are clearing it all up just nicely!
