VSD heart surgery

Hi

My DD has just recently been diagnosed with having a large VSD (hole in the heart) following a serious respiratory infection. She is 2 years old and it was missed at birth. I am reading that most children have it closed before the age of 2 and I am wondering if anyone has a child who went through surgery to have their VSD closed over the age of 2.

Hi - has your daughter had this surgery? my son is 6 and is due to have this surgery in the next few months. His VSD is not particularly large but it is causing damage to the aortic valve, so is having open heart surgery to preserve the function of the aortic valve.

Hi. Yes she has had it pretty recently. I'd say the doctors know best and to trust them. If it's causing damage then it definitely may need to be closed. Stay positive, even though its the hardest thing to do as a parent. Once it's done you'll be grateful
