Child’s 2 year cough

Hi there,

Sorry for the long post in advance…

My DD is age 5 and has had a cough for literally the past two years!! To begin with this cough came and went and so I thought it was just a case of back to back viral infections. The cough is always dry (no mucus comes up at all) and is persistent (she literally cannot go a minute without coughing when it’s there).

After 10 plus visits to the doctors in the first year of this cough (and several rounds of antibiotics which helped but then cough returned a few weeks later) She was put on both a preventer and reliever inhaler as docs said asthma. These didn’t work and for the next year doses were changed/we were given antihistamines to help and anti reflux meds. None of these have made the blind bit of difference.

We have been in and out of A and E as one time she ended up coughing up blood and we’re constantly told she will grow out of it. Finally went private as we were fed up and after a clear X-ray and allergy tests coming back normal the doctor is at a complete loss and so are we!

we have tried dehumidifier and Vicks etc also. The cough is now daily and on some days so much that she is doubled over. We are at our wits end and tbh the whole family’s quality is suffering but most of all my poor daughter. I feel like this is never ending and just don’t know what to do/try!

Does anybody have any suggestions of where to go from here? Any suggestions very gratefully received x

I know this post is from a while ago, but just wondered if you got anywhere @Rachel3015. How is your DD now?

I ask because I have an older DD who is just the same, with a dry cough every two minutes, all the tests normal, and it has been going on for over a year!
