3 month old coughing and choking

My 3 month old has pretty much been unwell since 5 weeks old. I've been back and forth to hospital. They kept saying he had bronchiolitis. He kept having episodes of coughing and choking. The last time I went to hospital they gave some reflux medication. It helped a bit but he was still having choking episodes. I eventually saw a gp and he got better on antibiotics for a chest infection. A few weeks later the coughing and choking is back. I keep getting told he's got mucus just use saline drops. I'm getting to the point where I think I'm
Just losing the plot is this normal?! My first son was a summer baby and never had anything like this. Is it because he's a winter baby and there is so many colds around? Last night I had to keep sitting him up as he was coughing and choking 😢

Ask for a referral to a SALT to check the swallow -

Delayed swallows can cause choking episodes, as can structural problems -

Get a referral to ENT if you can or chest consultant if keeps getting chesty -

Have a Google of conditions like laryngomalacia (although I don't think this is it as causes a sound) but May give you a steer. The SALT or ENT May ask for a video-fluoroscopy which will help.

Also children with severe reflux can choke from aspiration of the reflux coming back up, so would push or try stronger reflux meds, they take a while to work.

Hi my three month old son has had various episodes of choking since he was born. The first being the day I got out the hospital from having him by C section. I called an ambulance because I freaked and the episode was quite severe in that he went completely scarlet and rigid. They advised me it would have been mucus due to the C Section and the fact he never traveled through birth canal which would normally squeeze all of the mucus out of him.

he has since had episodes of choking since and now I’m being asked to try omeprazole for silent reflux. I will do this for two weeks to see if it makes any difference but if not I’ll be demanding an ENT appointment.

the episodes come on very sporadically. He usually goes Scarlett, rigid, and when I pat his back clear liquid comes out of his mouth and sometimes nose. He usually shows signs of congestion either night before or in morning. The congestion only shows usually when I get him up for a feed during the night it does not show all throughout the day as you would expect it to.

Im at a complete loss as to what is going on and my anxiety is through the roof.

I know this post is almost 1 year old but was hoping you could advise as to what happened in your experience?

Hiya, in the end my son improved as he got older. He had reflux and a couple of cases of bronchiolitis. One xray showed pneumonia :-( He was on gaviscon in every bottle and that seemed to help him. things improved even more once weaned. I think his was a severe case of reflux and possibly aspiration into the lungs but thankfully he grew out of it. I was constantly back and forth to a&e.
