Oral surgery appointment - dark spot lip

I took ds (9) to the dentist a couple of weeks ago to check out a dark spot that he's had on his lip for a while. I thought it was a freckle but it appeared to have got bigger. It's not raised and doesn't hurt or anything but he does get very dry chapped lips anyway as he also has eczema.
Dentist took a picture and sent to the hospital and now they've sent me a message to attend the department at the end of this month which seems quite quick.
Oddly, he also found a new one on the inside of his hand around the same time.
I think possibly they'll want to biopsy it (lip) so I was wondering what that would be like in this sensitive area.

Try not to worry about potential lip biopsies OP, it's probably more likely that bloods may taken. Is this a paediatric oral medicine clinic? Is it at a dental school ? Also, Has your dentist said what sort of conditions need to be ruled out ?

Hi Shew, it's at the general hospital. I haven't had the letter yet, just a text to say letter will follow. I'm not sure if it's paediatrics or not. I think the dentist mentioned possible biopsy. He said he thought it could be a melanotic macule but wanted it checked.
