Scarlet Fever

Ds 9 has scarlet fever. First symptoms were on Friday, got the rash Sunday and antibiotics on Sunday evening. How long does it take to get over it? He is really tired, no energy and generally feels rubbish. Sore throat has gone but still has the rash. His lips are also really dry and peeling, is this part of it?

my DD had similar when she was 6.

My memory may be slightly hazy but I remember it being the poorliest she had ever been ever, (still is now she is 11) and I remember her lips peeling and it taking a while for her to get back to being well and full of beans again.

I know she was back in school by the time her antiobiotics ended as she had to take them at school, but she most definitely had several days off school and was really really unwell.

Hope your child gets well soon

@nannyl Thank you, I was just a bit concerned because I've read other people have sent their kids back to school a few days later and he's just feeling so ill. Good to know the lips peeling are part of it as well I couldn't see anything about that anywhere.

I was told ds coukd go back to school after 24 hours of antibiotics. In reality he had several more days off, he was wiped out

Maybe that's what I'm getting mixed up, that he isn't contagious anymore but is wiped out as you say. Also hates the antibiotics which is a battle 3 times a day!

Ds ended up with tablets so had to learn to take them aged 7, it's a life skill. 🤣 but actually, once he got the hang of it, much preferred it to foul tasting medicine. Hope your ds feels better soon.
