Kind of in shock about our evening trip to A+E with 6 year old who's had stomach pain all day from belly button to right side, temp 39.6 nausea not eaten since yesterday.... Dr's have diagnosed appendicitis.... oh god I think " operation" and start to panic but we are then told to give her these antibiotics 3 times a day Cefalexin and should clear up if she gets worse go back! I didn't even know it was a thing not to remove the appendix with appendicitis and am sat here watching her like a hawk ..... anyone have similar experience??

Yes. There have been quite a few studies now that show antibiotics in uncomplicated appendicitis works frequently and when you end up with surgery there are no more frequent adverse effects than going straight to surgery.

Eg www.pcori.org/research-results/2016/comparing-antibiotics-and-surgery-treat-appendicitis-children#:~:text=As%20reported%20in%20JAMA%2C%20a,with%20significantly%20fewer%20disability%20days.

Yes. I work in the children's hospital within a large hospital. I work in administration and worked for paediatric surgery about 6 years ago. The doctors had just started prescribing antibiotics then for appendicitis.
