Waiting for major surgery for almost a year..

Hi all, my daughter (12) was listed for a bilateral femoral osteotomy in May last year. She had an orthopaedic
pre op in July where we were told all about her recovery etc and were initially told the surgery would be October 2022 but since then we haven't heard anything. Her walking ability has continued to deteriorate and the pain in her hips is getting worse. She was today sent home from school because she was in so much pain she could hardly walk at all. School have suggested she now stays home when she is in alot of pain and they will provide a laptop for her to do her work.

I have spoken to the consultants secretary and the scheduling manager at the children's hospital who have both told me they can't tell me anything other than we will be contacted in due course.

Does anyone have any advice on who I should contact (if anyone) or do I just wait it out?

I would ask your MP (whatever party)to intervene. Shocking she is not priority.

I reiterate our posts on your other thread: next step is to get your gp to chase

I'd suggest the MP route too. Maybe drop in a conversation to the consultant's secretary, they may then 'find' her a cancellation very soon to avoid the agro.

Also see if there is PALS at the hospital.

These major operations (DS had scoliosis surgery) need a very big team and aftercare so it's usually no beds following the op. They often need picu. At the moment OPs are being cancelled all the time because it's so busy at the moment, but I'd contact PALS to see if they can help.

I think keep calling and getting the GP to give you daughter pain killers. What meds does she take at the moment?

pals are a waste of time - they are part of the nhs and just agree with you - they have no input on who gets surgery quicker or whatever. just placate you with the waiting - get onto your mp or the health secretary

Is that your daughter in the photo? If so I'd ask mn to delete and upload with her face cropped out. Very sorry it is taking so long OP. My son has been waiting to be seen for sleep apnoea for 1.5 years now. NHS is crumbling.
