Hello lovely mummies x

I need your advice . My little daughter, who's 3 weeks old , has some feeding issues . She has been gaining weight regularly since her birth but I have noticed that , at every feed , she makes a clicking/ smacking sound and was wondering if it could be a problem . I am aware that it could be a symptom of tongue tie and worry as she seems to be quite windy .
Many thanks for your answers

Do your health visiting team have an infant feeding service or drop in feeding sessions? The first stage is to get the latch assessed by a feeding specialist. They can then make a tongue tie referral if deemed necessary. A clicking noise and wind definitely sounds as if she is losing suction and can be a fairly classic tongue tie symptom but it could be something more minor.

When you say she has been gaining weight regularly, what have her weights been so far?

My concern is that if she isn’t able to transfer milk effectively, that her weight gain might start to falter once your hormone levels reduce a little bit around the 6-12 week mark and your milk supply settles.

Clicking is usually a sign that the latch isn't quite right

Call the NCT infant feeding line or look up where your nearest breastfeeding support group is. Get someone to check the latch and go from there.
