Hello looking for other mums of children with asd.

my daughter is 2 she will be 3 In may. I first raised my concerns with the health visitor in March 2022 just before her second birthday. The health visitor came to the house and assessed her to begin with, she agreed to go ahead with a referral. Since then we've had her hearing tested more visits from the health visitor regarding development and we have a sen lady come to the house monthly. Today I got a call offering us an appointment for the speech and language portion of her intergrated assesment next month

really what I'm asking is for people who have been through the process what are the next steps? The guy on the phone said I'll receive a separate appointment for the paediatrician half of the assesment is that it? Will she get a diagnosis after these appointments? Or is there more too it? I've been told it's a long road but it's only been a year so now I'm worried I'm getting my hopes up and there's years of appointments still ahead. No one's really told me what we're in for. I've just been going with the flow

I think it really varies by local authority. There are lots of autism parent fb groups I'd ask on there for your local authority if anyone has experienced.

My son was diagnosed at 2.

We had a different path as we got a private assessment that they didn't accept and wanted to do their own. He was assessed by SLT and was diagnosed on the spot we then got a letter. That's it really. I did a course called early birds to learn about autism. Read lots of books. Met local parents. We had portage. The SLT and OT have been next to useless. But it's been a relief having the assessment all done.

Best of luck with your journey

We had a couple of a visits from an educational psychologist, speech therapist and OT then a couple of paeds appts, the final diagnosis was made over the phone and then followed up with a letter.

Agree with PP, I think it's varies depending which LA your under.

We're in Bucks.
